Chris,

Are you kidding me!!!! It's the highlight of my life. Of course, I am here in Singapore all alone!!!!!! My flight got in at 5:15 am and got to my hotel in time to watch the sunrise come up over the bay. Really beautiful. Of course, the down side is that it is already 92 degrees as the sun comes up and will probably get up to 110. Great day for going down to the verandas on the beach for the day followed by a couple of Singapore Slings right at the Raffles Hotel (where they invented the SSling). This evening calls for appetizers and dinner by the pool overlooking the park where there is a concert every Saturday night. Sometimes they are middle of the road acts, but sometimes they are big names. I actually caught Jimmy Buffett here (it was Chinese New Year). Keep you posted. India is next stop on this trip.

Ester,

Thank you very much and it is quite beautiful. However, I am now in Chennai, India and it is a very different story. The abject poverty is overwhelming. The lack of sanitation is heart rending to say the least. I went to Mass in Mother Teresa's Church yesterday and it has a dirt floor. I put 4500 rupees in the collection plate (about $100) and then at the end of Mass, the priest announced that the previous week, the collection total was 12000 rupees. It gives you a real appreciation of what we have in the states. The young boy sitting next to me in Mass had no shoes on, so I gave him some money and you would have thought I was Santa. I learned later that this is unsafe to do because the kids hound you afterwards for more money. So, Cathy, I did say hello to Mother Teresa for you since you model your life after her. I am off to Thailand in a couple of days and then Bali for the weekend. So, this will be the only update from India.

Andy

Talked to Dave Stowe a couple of days ago and he's as cheerful as ever! Giving me some moral support and a chuckle. What a guy... I may not make it to the Happy Hour on the 1st. I'm driving to AZ to see my daughter and family for 2 wks. Sarah is having her baby on the 4th. Alistar (5) and I get to play and help mommy and new sister get settled in at home. I'm so excited to see them, it's been a year. Talking on the phone just isn't the same. If I leave early enough on the 1st I will stop in and say hey! Have a great time!

Oh Andy....it sounds heart renching... God bless you.  Chris... have you gotten ahold of folks for the Oct. 1st reunion?  Im still working on it.  I emailed Gwen Jones and asked her if she was coming with her sister Gloria (Dennis Birdsall's wife)..   I have not talked to or heard from Mike Roberts since our last get together with Dennis Eiche.  I hope he is okay.  Allison.... I am for sure going to the county fair on Sunday (the 26th)... we are picking up the tickets tomorrow from the place where they train the horses out here in San Jacinto.  I can't wait.  Kathie.. hope we see you, even if for just a short visit on Oct. 1st... I know after a year...you will be anxious to see your kids.. They all grow up so fast.  My grandson who was just born yesterday... well... he is 16 months now and already fishing and has his own motorcycle.... Glad to hear that Tim Maxon will be there... "You Cool" Tim... Last Sunday I went with Debbie Limback to her daughters wedding shower..Next month is the wedding...  I have been communicating with Joy Thorstenson... she has been on location in Michigan...and was due to come home on the 20th (which was yesterday)..hopefully, she had a safe and happy trip, and we will be hearing from her soon???   Glad to hear Stowe is in good spirits...  I just love that guy! Welp...  How are you healing up Ester???  I got a message from your brother Buddy...It was great!  He is a good guy.  take care ya all...Love...Cathy

So, I am now in Thailand. This place really is very beautiful. I will post some pictures I took from my hotel room. If it were not so hot, I would actually think of a vacation home here. However, the fact that at night it gets down to like 95 degrees is just a bit to hot for me. But the people are beautiful and friendly and seemingly always happy. You can get a massage on the beach for $4.50 including the tip. You can get a pedicure for $3.00 and as always, the people are great. The food here is very interesting. It is a combination of vegetarian and spicy. The thai chefs love to hear you say that you like things spicy, because they consider it a challenge to burn the hair off the back of your head. They succeeded!! I doubt that I will actually taste anything for another month or so!!! Today I am going shopping and perhaps a trip out to the rain forest - believe it or not, it is a lot of fun.

So, next stop is Australia!! So far, no requests for shopping items (other than from my daughters). Chris, Cathy, Ester, Judy, Tim - no requests!!??? Let me know. Chris, China and Japan are the places for pearls. I'm not going there this trip. I will have my assistant make a note and get them on my next trip to those places. Oh, that's right, I don't have an assistant!!!! Had applications for two of them but both had other priorities!! Will write again from Australia!

Andy, your so funny.....I'm not one to request a lot of things, you know I love fans, scarfs, postcards...anything different whatever reminds you of a very special friendship between friends. Just to see some of those places must be so awesome. Is it always the same countries, Andy? Does your wife get to go with you if and when she would want too, maybe your daughters? What kind of a special job do you have, things and getting older doesn't help the memories.  Take care Andy things all around the nations are up in arms, some of them, be safe..I'll talk to you later. Ester

Cathy, I'm doing better after the surgery..and I'm glad you got to talk to Buddy...He's been very sick with his heart and diabetes...Wish we all lived alot closer where we can see each other over time. Right now I can hear all of the motorcyles on their way to Reno, NV  for Street Vibrations. They expect to have about 60,000 this year. love the sound of a Harley Davidson.

Take care, talk to you later.

Ester

Ester,

No actually I never know where I am going until a few weeks before departure. My last trip was to the middle east where I visited Isreal, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirate. It is always at least interesting there. I went to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Cairo, and Dubai. My next trip is to Moscow, Beijing, Paris and London. After the first of the year, I go back to Africa and then over to the South American cities. So, the variety is great. I completely agree that I have a great job. My wife does join me on occasion, if our schedules happen to overlap, but because she is a schoolteacher, that does not happen very often. She has been to Beijing, Shanghai, Patong, London, Paris, Italy, Thailand, Singapore and many more. My daughter's don't get to join me to much as they are both professional women and seldom do their schedules line up with mine. As a result, I have to declare family vacations about 16 months in advance and get everyone off to a good vacation. We've had great family trips to Thailand, Arruba etc. It is always great and certainly makes all the travel that I do worth every second!

That's great Andy, your a very sharp man...something that I'm sure you never really knew about yourself in High School....lol...Keep yourself out of arms way with all of this traveling, does it get old going on a plane here and there?  Your a very interesting man I say so myself. Next reunion I hope we get to meet your better half, your wife...put some new pictures up for all of us to see of your travels..take care and talk to you later.  Oh, why would you need an assistant?  sounds like a great job to have...

Ester,

I read your response as I am sitting waiting for my flight here at the airport in Bangkok, Thailand. To answer your question, no, the travel really never gets "old". Some trips are a little too long, but what can you do!!?? The only thing that bothers me is when I get on a flight and the flight attendant knows me! And, invariably, it happens when my family is with me - to which my wife always let's me know I am traveling to much!!! Anyway, I am off to Australia now, I will do another post from downunder!!!

Well, here I am in Melbourne. I have to admit, I do like Sydney better than Melbourne. The restaurants are better and the city itself is more attractive. Melbourne is more of a big city with the sprawl that goes with it. Sydney on the other hand is a very compact space. That being said, the people in Melbourne are pretty much the same as those in Sydney. Very friendly and open and they love Americans. You feel very safe here, Women walk the streets at all hours of the day and night and feel perfectly safe. It is an interesting time of year to be here. For Australia it is actually late winter/early spring. Coming from New England, it feels terrific here, it's about 68 degrees. To the locals, it is the heart of winter and they are dressed in winter coats and gloves and hats, etc. I'm out in shorts and tee shirt with sandels on thinking it's great weather. Next stop - Bali!!!

Too bad I don't have any assistants!!!!!

Andy

Oh Andy... your going to Bali???? I need a new bra..... course you probably don't understand that cuz your a man.. Bali bras are "the best"..

Well... Chris and I are going frantic trying to get the word out to everyone about this Friday "Oct. 1st" at El Torrito's at SAVI Ranch in Yorba Linda (see home page)... well.  it would be easier if you all would write a note here saying "yes or no" I will or won't be there... I left a message with Balanski, Danesi, Thorstenson, Louie Scafani (my bro), gavin padillla, and umteen more...so if you can make it...let us know right here on this site that your going to be there, k?  makes life easier! Tried calling Bruce Boyer but that number is no longer...  Trust me you's guys...it is not going to be the same unless your there!!!!

So far... I know Tim Maxon, Chris Cummings, Terry Trautloff, Johnny Karczynski, Darryl Dowdell, myself... will be there

Cathy, ~~~ Chris sent an email that I responded to about El Torito... Friday afternoon I'm leaving for AZ (Show Low). I'll be spending 2 wks with my daughter and family. The new grandbaby is arriving on Monday morning. I'm so excited. Alistar and I have great fun together and now an extra treat, I get to hold a new little one. I love kids! The boys will miss me, especially Luke, but they'll get through it. They all know they can call me anytime. I'm driving (takes about 9 hrs) so it should be exciting. Do you think I should take my birth certificate with me? hahaha! My mom is acting like I'm 18 going into the night... too funny. If I can I will stop by for a quick hello, depends on what time I get out of here! Have a great time!

Take care! kathie

Cathleen Scafani

Well....I've been checking this message forum everyday and I am not seeing anything new.  I see all these people signed up on this website...  Even if you just say HI... that would be awesome!  So... here is my question for the month of October.............  who's got a birthday this month?????  Let us know so we can sing happy birthday to you and wish you well on this journey of being 59 for the first time in your life.   I have noticed one thing different about being 59..... I just can't get up on that ladder to change a light bulb...OMG... where did that fear of heights come from????  do you know what I'm talking about???  How do these old geezers get up on the roof and clean out the gutters and paint the house and stuff... I mean I am really scared to death and I am only about 3 feet off the ground.  Anyone else feel that way?

10/05/10 05:03 PM #338

Linda Moore (Palmer)

Hi Cathy, so far, no fear of heights, but don't like to drive alone at night, so that is now my 59 semi phobia. Sorry to be missing from the forum for a while....my dad passed away quickly and unexpectedly 2 months ago and I've been laying low. I was so lucky to have a wonderful relationship with him and we really had a great time working together every day on the memory dvd for the reunion. He was sick for about a month and then gone. Blessing is that he didn't suffer very long.

Sounds like you guys had a good turn out and great time at El Torito. Friday nights are tough for me...happy to report that after 29 years of marriage, we still have great date nights on Fridays that are tough to trade in. I love the new photos of the reunion with music! Great job kudos probably go to Kathy and Chris. Not too many new classmates are communicating via the message forum, maybe you can email Kathy Goldsworthy Zeiser to send an email on your behalf to encourage the entire class to stay in touch. You've turned into a great cheerleader! Catch ya later...Linda

Hi Linda.  My heart goes out to you with the loss of your dad.  I'm so sorry.  My folks are gone too, but something tells me they have a 24/7 party going on up there in heaven.    I just figured out what we will do for El Torrito next year.... do it during the day so we can see where we are going...
