Oh, Dennis..my father and brother played and jammed with other musicans my whole life growing up..My dad played a Gibson red, just like you..and my brother was #1 drummer in the state of CA for many years..every Wednesday my dad's band would practice at the house outside with the garage door open so all of the neighbors could come with chairs and dance and be entertained. My dad had a gig every weekend..but my brother at the age of 16 yrs old was asked to go on the road with country western Earnest Tubbs, my dad say No!  he had to graduate..Buddy graduated from Savanna 1967..some called him (Sol)..My oldest boy Robert in England has my dad's Gibson and plays, he had it priced for insurance purposes and it's valued at $40,000..Dennis keep your guitars...I guess I miss those times they were so much fun.  Boy, my husband now is mad...lol...talk to you all..such good memories when I see everyone with Dennis and his band..thanks again for the pics and postings...

Hey Ester, your dad had a Gibson ES-335?!? Outstanding!

What year? They were introduced in '58 and the early '60's models are in demand.

I have a  tobacco sunbust ES-347 that is much like the 335's.

Mine has cosmetics like the 350, lots of MOP and great neck and headstock binding.

But, it is not a vintage 335. Very nice!!

What year is your 335, Dennis??

Holy Cow Batman!.... although I am a silent reader and not much of a responder, have been really enjoying all of the camaraderie (spelling?) of all those engaging in our website/message forum. Wish more would chime in. Cathy, Happy Belated from another Gemini. Chris Cummings Noel and I found out that we are not only born one day apart but were in Centinela Hospital at the exact same time....amazing that both our families ended up in Anaheim. Weird, but great. Hope you all had a great Memorial Weekend. Mark your calendars for next year to attend the Birthday Bash (www.ksbr.net) smooth jazz concert every memorial weekend. Would be a great place for party/reunion.

Hope you all have a great summer!

Linda,

Great to hear from you too. This is the best idea anybody had from the reunion. It makes the reunion continue. Hey all you other closet readers - jump in, it's great to hear from all of you and see what you all are up to. I am currently in Sydney, Australia for the week. Last week I was in Singapore and was not able to be home for the Mem Day weekend, so I had to spend the long weekend in Bali instead. (Tough life, but someone has to do it!!) I leave Friday for Thailand for 4 days and then on to India for a week, London for a week and then finally home for the 4th of July. Being on the road is a lot of fun and definitely has it's advantages, but this web site and message forum is great and keeps bringing me home every day!! So, thanks all for putting it up and adding to it. Kathy, I got that fan you requested in Tokyo, but have not had any requests from anyone else. Chris, any decision on Cape Cod Baseball?? Don't wait to long, the summer will be over before you know it. One last quick link. The city of Sydney is having a festival of lights, and the Opera house roof is projected like a painters pallet every night.

Here is the link, it is amazing:

It is really something.

Grant...you're talking circles around most of us...heehee.  GEEZ...get you musician head together and you have a language of your own :)  Impressive!  Esther, did you ever play any instruments?  Maybe for our next big get together, and some of us have talked about this and wish it to happen...we get Grant, Dennis, Dave Graham, Darryl DowDell, Dan Terizzi and whomever else dabbles and have a good ol JAM SESSION.  Pam Markle and I will volunteer to be back up singers..ha.  Andy, I agree that Linda's suggestion of the Jazz Fest might be a good way to gather the troups.  Linda....Happy (ALMOST) birthday, to another awesome GEMINI...:)

Hey Ester, say hello to your brother Sol for me. He was definetly way ahead of his time - played like a pro even in high school. Sol on drums, Ralph Mason on trumpet and myself at the piano. The music teacher Don Gunderson even got us several gigs around town. Good stuff!

It's so great to hear from everyone. Yes, I agree you (Linda!) closet readers should say hey once in a while! My life is screwed up and reading the posts are uplifting! We had some great times back then and even since then... Ester, you're right we are only as old as we feel. I keep thinking (and hoping) that I have time for a whole new life... I guess that's hoping for ya! You all make me smile, thank you from the bottom of my heart! Hope all are well and have a most wonderful summer! (not quite the summer of love, but good anyway!) kathie

Kathy,

You are sooooo right. Keep on keepin on!! I hated my career job of 28 years and was finally able to retire about 10 years ago. That lasted about 8 months before my wife threatened to kill me and I stumbled into the job I currently have. And you know what, it is a great job!! I love it. I get to see the world, play with computers, live on my own schedule and get paid for it. I can honestly say that I am very happy in life. (now) So, hang in there, remember the old song What will be will be!! I love the old saying "want to make God laugh, make plans"!!

Kathie, sounds like you are definitely facing challenges and maybe friends can help. I lost my largest customer last fall and am back to where I was sales wise 10 years ago and am definitely at a do over stage myself. I do have some clients and peers that I may be able to pass your resume to if you are still looking for work part time or full. I would be happy to pass your info wherever the opportunity presents. If you would like to send me your resume, please send to linda.palmer@proforma.com and hope something may come of it. Friends need to support friends! Meanwhile, if you know of anyone that needs great service and creativity for marketing materials and promotional products, I also love referrals! Hang in there!

So, did anyone go to the ksbr music bash for memorial day weekend?  I was in Quartzsite helping friends.  It is hot as hell out there already.  So, Linda and Crissi were born almost on the same day, in the same hospital?  OMG..  There were a couple of guys on this forum that had that same story... remember...dah...no?  Well, I was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in San Francisco... anyone born there?  As the "Animals" say... San Francisco ... with flowers in your hair....  Oh yea!  Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end, we'd sing and dance forever and a day....   Hey... got a message from Darryll Dowdell... he sent me a link and you would all be drooling at what his band was playing.  For God's sake... OMG!  He is sooo talented.  The jazz is out of this world.  I can't wait for you all to get it together and form your own Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra.  Larry Mazon can be reached on Classmates... Ed Ferriera can be reached here on this site and he is like #1 on guitar... did you know he was a professor of music in Guam??? oh yea!  Darryll....  make sure you all get it together before I die, ya hear?  And Ester... get Sol involved too... Shezzzzz... I wanta be yer manager.  I'll put it together.  You say when and where!  Grant... bring that ol guitar and your in like flin... Dennis...  do you see what you started???  Oh, yea... Dennis doesn't do computers...someone call that man and tell him "he has started something BIG"... Andy... we can use all your "flying miles" to get them all together... how bout it???  I need that fan right now... I'm having my own personal summer right this minute... (smile)....Happy Birthday Chris and Linda..  Love yas...Cathy

Gee, I kinda thought I *did* have it together :)   But as Albert Einstein said "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."

Esther,

You are the only one who has responded to my offer. I just left Thailand and am now in India. From here I go to London on the other side of the planet and then to Brazil before heading home. When I get home in 2 and 1/2 weeks, I'll be able to mail things out then. But, I need an address. I pray things are well for your husband, I went to mass in Mother Teresa's church here in India and remembered him in my prayers.

Andy, you know Gary Laukannen lives in Brazil, right?  He's on the beach in a beautiful area.  You should look him up.  Write me and let me know your exact date to be there if you know him and want to connect.  He's coming to CA the end of June.  Have a safe and fun trip.  Doesn't sound like it's WORK at all.  Need an asst?  :)

Chris,

I talked to Gary at the reunion and I have actually been very close to where he lives and it is very beautiful. However, two things are currently in the fire. First of all, this will be the end of a 6 week trip and Gary actually lives several hours from my office, so to get to that area I have to take an extra day. Second of all, I was just contacted by a customer in South Africa and they are asking me to come there instead. It just happens to be the same time as  the World Cup, so I might not even get to Brazil!!!

As for sounding like a vacation, I could not agree more!! As I wrote before I love my job and marvel at the fact that I get paid to do it!! I have been emailing Cathy seperately and pointed out to her the other night how lucky I am. I was sitting doing email having a nice scotch and a great cigar, sitting on my balcony in Thailand watching an amazing lightning storm over the sea!! GREAT LIFE!!!! As for being an assistant, I am afraid you will have to fight Cathy for that one!!!!!!

Cathy,

I was all set to sign you up for belly dancing classes for my trip next month in Dubai!! Sure, Chris calls you up - no problem! I tried to call you from Australia to wish you a happy birthday and I have a wrong number!!

Ester and Chrissy - need addresses or I can give to you at the next reunion!!

You guys are all so funny...it is a delight to read your correspondence. Joy Thorensten (spelling?) chose me off in JR High at Brookhurst and it is still the scariest day I can remember. I must have been destined for sales back then as somehow I talked her out of it. Whew!

Re the KSBR Birthday Bash, it was incredible and Veda was also there. Horishima, David Benoit and Peter White were all there along with 25 other performers. You must put it on your calendar next year...it is always the Sunday before Memorial Day.
